1 banana!

NOM- tossed a couple chocolate cheerios on that and called it a morning! IT was amazeballs. Totally making it again tomorrow muhaha

Todayyy I also had the worlds largest baby carrot. YES oxymoron to the max- love it.

I love chocolate milk. Oh and massive photo shoot from boredom.

Today has been “boo0o0ooo0taayful”. But seriously it has. I woke up around 7 and for some strange reason did not want a typical breakfast haha SOOO this being said I hadchicken and veggies for breakfast hahaha. And around 10 I made a smoothie, but I didn’t have any ww smoothie mix nor did I have any truvia left…sooo I had frozen blueberries, some frozen mix fruit, skim milk and a packet of diet hot coco hah the chocolate was actually a lovely taste in it.

Um to add some spice to this post, you should know I am wearing my ninja outfit today…and if you were ever curious what a ninja looks like when they are pondering how to pose for pictures for their blog….well this is clearly it…

image

But then I was all hmm maybe I should just inform the blog world about my pack a day habit to Strides delish SPARK gum.

image

I’m serious people go buy this gum now.

So anyways…then I was to BOOTCAMP!! I obvs peer pressured Hollie into going :) Okay there wasn’t too much pressure than me saying yesterday “I think I’m going to do bootcamp tomorrow” then she texted me this morning saying she was going to go too haha. Then we had ourselves our typical arc trainer sesh. Hollie is recovering from a heel injury and I am still trying to ease into running, so after bootcamp we just did an hour of arc trainer then called it a day.

I went to the Big M (grocery store) and loadddedd up on my fruit :) Naturally- because I have an addiction to fruit.. I also bought a can of pumpkin and brussel sprouts- I’m def going to try them this week.

Around 2 I realized I hadn’t had lunch yet nor had I showered! So I made myself a nomtastmic sandwich and I was just so excited to eat it and it was so good I had to take a pic to show you guys.

I think this is called retirement?

I am almost on my way to complete retirement from soccer. WOW. Craziness. As of last Thursday I spoke with the XC coach at my school he said “we would be thrilled to have somebody like you join our team.”. That was the first steps to retirement.

My next steps came after my 2nd work out today…

image

I cleaned out my locker…and took home my shoes and gloves.

This upcoming week I plan on speaking with my soccer coach and let him know I won’t be coming back for Spring season. *Moment of silence for my retirement of soccer in which I’ve played for 16 years…*

Work out today-

60 minutes arc trainer in the am with hollie and justin.

3 mile run (23:30) then bike for 15mins, abs and push ups.

image

Clearly looking like a hoodlum in my sweatshirt

image

Bhaha also today at my school there is some sort of “war” going on, I do not really understand but I followed this man who had a shield, helmet, fake axe, some polls of some sort haha I had to snag a pic.

Just a lil taste...

I couldn’t resist! I HAD TO RUN TODAY. I was jonesin’ for it, all week I was good not running!

But this morning I did 60 mins on the arc trainer and I felt GREAT after. I decided to do some abs then head home… but I was done with classes…and I really had nothing better to do….so naturally I found myself back at the fitness center at 3 oclock and I just HAD to test the waters. Just a light 20 minutes on the treadmill (2.44miles). Then walked until 3miles and did a few more abs, stretched my life away and left! SUCCESSFUL BY ALL MEANS! Only a little tightness in the back of my left knee, but I think thats normal considering.  Perhaps a lil 3 miler tomorrow?

image

This was going on lap 7, so mile 19! My face looks cold and wind burned haha…it’s still realllly dry from last weekend.

image

Okay so it isn’t Fanny Foto Friday, but it is a picture of my backside muhaha this is my new singlet and I freakin love it…so obvs wanted to share the greatness…

Another reason I wanted to run today- I WAS SICK OF SEEING MY DAILY MILE WEEK BEING EMPTY teehee

GPOYW- FAV MARATHON PIC EDITION

image

By far my favorite picture from the marathon. Just suckin’ faces with my medal and sippin on some chocolate milk post marathon :)

Side note- see that guy back left, that’s FRANK, we became friends during the race, he was slightly behind me for the majority of it, but after my ish at mile 22 he pulled ahead of me. But we bonded again after. I LOVE RUNNING FRIENDS.

Alright- let’s be honest there’s no better time than the current to start prepping for Bikini Season. Last summer I purchased my first bikini and wore it…but with shorts. I have yet to wear a bikini sans shorts… and this summer I am determined to wear it WITHOUT SHORTS.

This being said… today was day 1 of OPERATION BIKINI BODYYYYYYYYYYY

image

I went to the gym today- woooo! She’s backkkk! And did 1 hour elliptical and then major abs (planks, 8lb med ball vsit twists, and these leg upper outter things I don’t know what they are called…sorry guys haha). I also did my 100 push ups (100 more to come before bedski). I wanted to do 100 squats, 100 lunges but after the first set of 50 I felt that I was pushing my muscles  a bit too much considering I just ran a marathon 3 days earlier….

ALSO- if anyone wants to send me a weight lifting program I’d probably be your best friend for ever….just sayin’….I need to start gettin jackeeeeeeed

anonymous questions answered brahhh

image

I got started on my weight loss journey May of 2009, I had just tipped the scales at 206lbs, was finishing up my freshmen year of college with bad grades, and being what clearly can only be described as depressed. I came home one weekend from school and broke down in tears talking with my mom (about transferring and life). I then asked her if I could do Weight Watchers (she had done it in the past) and she said she wasn’t happy with her weight and that we could do it together. The rest is history, my life is completely different than before and I think the best thing I ever did was join Weight Watchers.

I don’t count calories, I follow the Weight Watcher Points Plus program, which focuses on the carbs, proteins, fiber and fats in food. While training for the marathon I unintentionally started focusing more on my running than my eating, I think this has to do with some of my weight gain since November. So for the next marathon I train for (starting end of march) I will focus equally on my running and keep an even closer eye on my eating, because lets be honest- no one wants to gain weight ever haha.

I didn’t follow any plan in particular. I used a basis that I found online giving me a weekly total I should hit, and what my long run should be. That way I was able to cumulate miles through out the week and still have a long run. I don’t remember the website I’m sorry!!

Again- as I mentioned earlier in this post, I gained weight during marathon training, however it had just switched to the new program, it was the holidays, and I didn’t focus as much on my eating as I did on the running. Therefore, prob why I gained weight- not just because of the training. I would say that you need to figure out what is more important to you at this time- completeing a marathon or losing weight (or maintaing). My other (non professional) advice would be if you do want to try and do both, just be extremely careful and take note of what you are putting in your body. Make sure you are eating enough, and mark your activity and weekly points. Make sure you get your healthy guidelines fulfilled and still remained focus on the protein. Also, if you are going to start training- tell your WW leader, she can help you switch your daily eats and pinpoint what will help you lose, without losing nutritional  values.

Hope these all helped!! AGAIN- I AM NOT BY ANY MEANS A PROFESSIONAL AT ANYTHING hahahah these are just advice and suggestions that have worked for me!!

You gotta tame the beast before you let it out of its cage.

Now that the marathon has been completed it is time I get back to focusing on some important things….Like my new modeling career…I call this look Blue Steel…

image

But in all seriousness…

As some of you,(new followers this might be new to you unless you’ve read back posts), I have been struggling with some weight gain since I reached goal in November. We concluded it was due to a number of things (muscle gain, over estimating calories, I stopped doing things other than cardio). SO now that the marathon is over, and my next race isn’t until April 17th (Plattsburgh Half Marathon) and then the next full is May 29th (Buffalo Marathon), I am getting back to my normal regiment!

What does this mean??

Oh well let me tell you ; )

Exercise Wise

-Running (OBVSSS) but I am going to find a plan that will incorporate hills, speed and long runs.

- Squats, Lunges, Planks/Abs, Push Ups (4 sets of 25 each to start then increase)

-  Weight Lifting 2 to 3 times a week.

Eating

- Keep within WW points (obvs) and incorporate the healthy oils and whole grains

- Eat some of my  weekly and activity points- aka allow indulgences

On Sunday I am going to do my first weigh in Post Marathon (I’m giving myself some time to lose the water weight and get my exercising back on). From whatever weight I’ve gained I will shoot for mini goals. The first realistic goal is get back to 130s by the end of March.

image

I wish I looked up in this picture….PURE FOCUS OBVS

(ps. if you look closely you can see the ice/snow that formed on my hair by my ears)

- other side note- my super awesome grandma gave me that hat for christmas ;) she’s awesome sauce and is snorkeling her life away in St. Johns…JEALOUSSSSS

Down to the Nitty Gritty

Holy cow- let’s just mention about how I went to bed (at 8:20 because I was exhausted…and slept without waking up at all until 6:45-wow)  last night with some new followers, nothing crazy just like 10 new ones and woke up this morning to A WHOLE HECK OF A LOT MORE FOLLOWERS. I was all “what the heck where are you all coming from??” and then I proceeded to look through my dash and found that Ben made a very nice post about me! I guess thats what happens when celeb status BenDoesLife mentions you in a post, you gain all his followers hahah. Well thanks ben and HELLOOOOO NEW FOLLOWERS! I’m trying to catch up on all your blogs and answer the questions you guys asked but it’s a tad overwhelming right now! But if you have any questions at all just shoot me a message and make sure your ask box is available because I can shoot you a response back there! (I don’t like to publicly respond to most questions asked). So feel free to introduce yourself or ask questions! I want to know you guys!!

Nooow for the official stats!

3 hours 49 minutes 19 seconds

I came in 21st over all, 6th for females and 1st…out of 1 teehee for age group! So I was the only 20-24 year old running in that marathon!

image

Let’s get a close up of that bad boy….

image

Yup- like I said- Sobbing at the finish line= awful finishing picture. But it shows exactly how I felt. (those are happy tears btw…)

image

As to these anonymous questions-

-I am 5’6 and some change

- I have not always been a runner, I have always been an athlete. I was the only girl in my hs to play 3 sports, BUT I HATED running. It was after I left my first college, and joined weight watchers I decided I wanted to bump up the weight loss and would do half my time on the elliptical and then slowly started running on the treadmill and the rest was history.

-My main exercises to “get so toned and trimmed” (thank you for that comment by the way haha) was mainly running and doing planks, squats, lunges and push ups (4 sets of 25 to start, as you build you can add more obv)

- And I have not ever really done weight lifting, guilty as charged. HOWEVER, it is in my goals to start weight lifting 2 or 3 times a week after this week!

Also- for those of you who don’t use tumblr and are new readers I also have a wordpress (it’s practically the same as this, but a little more personal info not as running/healthy lifestyle focused)

Goals for what I am planning on doing now that I have finished my first marathon  to come later tonight or tomorrow!

HOLY MOTHER I’M A MOTHER EFFING MARATHONER!!!!!

Obviously this will be a long post……….

Wow. Lets get the stats out there right away and then I’ll recap it!

3 hours and 49 minutes (and some change- I don’t know official times, and places or anything yet).

2 times my dang shoe came untied.

2 bananas and a bagel nom-ed immediately after.

Yesterday I arrived in Ottawa at around 1:30 and immediately hit up the worlds smallest expo. Haha seriously- it was pretty lame considering the other ones I’ve seen from you super cool bloggies. Anyways, got my shirts, number (73 what whaat), random ish- and bounced. It was a windy 12 degrees with a wind chill of something (honestly I tried to avoid the weather channel). Went back to the hotel and we got stuck with a crappy room that smelt like a mix of old lady and cigarettes. Annnnd cue the headache. With a mix of this and the massive weather changes we’ve been having (60 to 16 within 12 hours…not cool). Therefore, this chica had an unpleasantly painful head ache for most of the day/ evening. Alright almost done with the non-marathon it self business, but last night we tried to go out to dinner and was told we’d have a 45 minute wait, wellll 2 hours..YES 2 HOURS, later we were still not seated and left the restaurant to find another place at 9 a night. (Let’s review, Caitlin without food for more than 2 hours= not a happy camper and I had already eaten all the apples in our car.) Anyways- went to a buffet style restaurant (holy bad place for people struggling with weight issues). Kept it cool and had some ziti, made a bomb salad and naturally hit up the ice cream bar.

Now onto the goods. I woke up at 6am and completely avoided the tv, computer, even our car, haha legit everything that could possibly hint at the temperature outside. I had my go-to prerun breakfast- oatmeal with banana, blue berries and a scoop of peanut butter. NOM.

Then we were off to the races! No but seriously. We got a spot easily- score, and posted up in the War Museum for the next hour waiting for it to start. There were 1,500 people participating in the events today! There was a 3km walk, 5km run/walk, 10km, half marathon, full marathon and a relay for the marathon. I got a decent place at the start not too close but def not far back at all. I had a weird encounter which I’m glad I didn’t let it effect me. As I was standing there this man came up to me and asked if I was from America, I said yes and he kept touching me. Like he kept trying to grab my hand and touch my shoulder. I politely gave him a “get the eff away from me look” and he walked away, and not even 2 minutes later came up to me and tried to touch me again. NOW WHY NO ONE AROUND ME DIDNT SAY ANYTHING I DONT KNOW. But he then kept asking me “Why are you here” and kept asking me about New York. Seriously it was very annoying. I know he was slower but still very awkward. He then left again and turned around to come back to me and started talking to me again and I firmly said “Sir I’d really like it if you would stop talking to me”. FINALLY the man  in front of me turned around and gave him a death glare and then told me I handled that appropriately. Well gee thanks sir. Anyways bleah, that was interesting to say the least.

The gun went off! POW. The first loop- oh yeah for the marathon we did a 5k loop 8 times and then there was a 2.2km turn around to finish.

So the first loop was crowded but pretty awesome- as some of you suggested I kept a close eye on my garmin to make sure I wasn’t going too fast. First time around the loop flew by and the second loop as well. At each  loop it was great because I was able to see my parents each time I came around!  Now I am slightly embarrassed to admit this but I’m going to anyways because I feel like this is a total judgement free zone. Anyways right after crossing loop 3 (so about 10miles in?) I REALLLLY HAD TO PEE. But the porta johns were still 2 miles away annnd I couldn’t hold it baha. I tried to squeeze in real bad but nope- just was not havin it. Soo…yahhh I may have peed my pants a tinsy bit….Anyways….(awkward silence)….But then I felt SUPER refreshed and speedy! And I looked down at my garmin and I was ahead of where I thought I’d be for 13.1 miles! I ended up my half marathon time at 1 hr 43 minutes I believe!

The next loops and miles are really a blur- From 13-17 miles I got really in the zone and was just focusing on not getting too fast, or too slow. The course had about 4 different times where there were inclines/ hills. So each time it was a hill I really tried to focus on keeping the same pace up the hills because I didn’t want to slow down there, then get speedy on the down hill.

How I kept my pace whenever I started feeling blah was I would find a guy and literally run in back of him. I don’t know if this is a runner fopa or anything? I mean I wasnt on his butt I gave some space but staying with someone else kept me from slowing down on hills. This man and woman I stayed with for most of 13-17 were great. The woman (who was wearing a boston marathon 2007 jacket AHH) and the guy looked bad ass, well they were running together, chattin it up, and I stuck with them for seriously that whole time. Actually at the end of the race when I was in the building she came up to me and said Congrats and that I ran a good race!!!! AHH I was so pumped because she was pretty bad ass. Oh also during miles 13-17 since I was pretty zoned out- some of the things I was thinking about were like “yumm I can’t wait until I can finish and then I’m going to have a hugeee glass of milk mmmm” and then I think from maybe 15-17 my thoughts were on “Hmm what do I want for lunch? ooo and for dinner mmm”. My decision was that I wanted Pita Pit for lunch and a McDonalds McFlurry on the way back to school hahahaha. Yup- I seriously thought hard for those miles, my other options were a big juicy hamburger or mexican. But then I figured I don’t normally like greasy things after I run- so Pita Pit won. And lemme just say- I did get Pita Pit and it was thebomb.com. Oh and I OBVIOUSLLLLY got a big ol’ glass of chocolate milk.

Also guys- you should all know that my playlist was awesome sauce- obvs big thanks to you fools! Another thing I wanted to say thank you for- and seriously I can’t say thank you enough- is for all your encouragement. Whenever I started doubting myself or getting negative thoughts I would seriously think about every one of your messages or comments to me supporting me and wishing me luck. I kept thinking “I can’t let these guys down!” and it was really motivating and reassuring knowing that you guys had faith in me. So seriously THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Also- side note- Christine, or Short Mom, I swear to God I saw a woman who reminded me of you so bad- I saw her and immediately had the hummus farts as jet packs speed me forward ; )

At mile 19 I was coming around the loop and my parents, who had been texting my best friend Britty!, screamed out “BCO SAYS HI!!!!” And I IMMMMEDDDIATELY got super happy and thats when it hit me. Holy smack I was almost on mile 20- meaning holy smack I’m almost to unknown territory!!!! I booked it along for the next 2 miles and when I got to mile 21 I just wanted it to be mile 26! NOT because of the pain or anything but because I was so friggen excited knowing I was going to finish!!!! and be a marathon runner!!!

But then at mile 23 at the water station…life began to suck. I was attempting to do this walk/jog while drinking and I ended up choking on my water (you know? like when it goes down the wrong pipe). Well yeah that kinda sucked because then almost immediately after I got a wicked cramp in my lung. This combined with me emotionally realizing I was 3 miles away from finishing, I started sobbing. From pain, emotion, but mostly pain. My abs started cramping up and I seriously could not catch my breath. My pace went from 8:23 to 9:56 and then to 10:24 in no time. With the pain from the crampage (prob didn’t help that I was sobbing), my time slowed way down, thus begin me being able to feel the pain in my legs. But then after the loop, which was hilarious looking back on because I was legit sobbing when I passed my parents and my dad screamed out “How much more” and I whimpered back “2 miles  wahh”. So  at this point all I had left was 2.2miles. Seriously longest 2.2 miles of my life. Before the crampage I was head on for having a Boston Qualifying time- like I was golden. Crampage slowed me down but it was still in reach. However,  I still had 2 hills to go… I can’t even explain what was going through my head, I was seriously contemplating my sainty and then some spectator screamed out “YOUR LEGS HAVE DONE THE WORK NOW YOU FINISH WITH YOUR HEART” Seriously. best thing this man could have ever said. I kicked my bum into gear (um that sounds like I actually sped up- I did not, yet at least, I still had 2 miles to go). I did however turn my frown upside down and I was realizing completely that this was it. That I was 2 miles from the freakin finish line! I WAS GOING TO GET MY FREAKIN MEDAL AHHH! This being said I had to focus and dig deep. I pumped my pass up with 1.2 left and I think I was running around an 8:46 (I’ll look at my garmin later and post the splits then- with the official deets and what not).

And then POW. It was done. I crossed the finish line and as the announcer said my name I burst into tears and practically fell into my dads arm. I was physically and emotionally exhausted. I can tell you right now- my finishing picture is going to be straight up awful hahahaha like I’m not kidding you…no one looks good when they cry…and booooy was I cryin’. Immediately got my medal, a bagel and 2 bananas. I was freaking freezing. I’ll have to see if the pictures show it but there was snow literally frozen on my face and hair. My eye lashes and brows were covered in ice. I couldn’t feel my hands and my legs were like jellloooo.

Well that’s all I got for you right now. I loved every second (okay lets not lie, 23-25 was awful), of it. After I finished all I could think of was holy crap I missed BQ by 4 minutes. WHICH was my secret goal (obvs). But that being said- I accomplished my goal of finishing! and my goal of under 4 hours! And hell- 4 minutes off from BQ I’LL TAKE IT (esp considering the crampage). I can’t wait to train for Buffalo and I am publicly going to say- my goal is to get under 3:35. I really think I can do it.

Ahhh So again- THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT YOU SERIOUSLY ARE THE GREATEST PEOPLE EVER!

Now off to shower… because I just got home and have still not showered… Photos and official times to come later!

Banana Walnut with strawbs…. <—- I consider this successful carbo loading right? It’s 2 days before the marathon and that’s prob 70% of my days carbs right there)

Going to catch up on all my readings and papers due until Wednesday because I know Monday and Tuesday I’m gunna be beat. Hope everyone is having a wonderful start to their weekend!

THE TRUTHFUL THANKFUL THING THURSDAY

This Thursday I am Thankful for ONE MAJOR THING. I am thankful for all of YOU. I’m thankful for all my tumblr friends and daily mile friends. You guys seriously keep me going. Sunday when I am running the marathon I am going to think of every single one of you. When the going gets tough- and we know it will at some points, I’m going to dig deep and finish strong. I seriously look forward to coming home to posting. I enjoy reading all your posts and seeing all your progress. This is probably the best community I’ve ever been involved it.

It’s also pretty great/ funny when I talk about you guys as if I know you to my friends. Like when a whole bunch of you guys were running marathons back in Nov and Dec I would be like ” oh todays __? Blank is running this today!!” Annd for all you who ran the Disney Marathon I was ridiculously jealous and bragged about you all to my family members so much that my Grandma said she would sponsor me so I could run it next year! bahaha!

Anyways- a long winded THANK YOU. You all are amazing people and I truly believe that I would not be running this marathon without the push and support from you guys. You are fantab and I love you allllll!

Andddd to answer Christine’s question….

image

Since this is my first marathon and it will be chilly willy wally… my first goal is to finish. My second ideal goal- I’d really like to finish in under 4 hours.

And then I’ve got a secret one roarrrr ; ) I’llll neverrr telllllll muahaha.

THREE DAYS ahhhhh

Wellll! Today is 3 days before the marathon!! It was my last day of running before it. I ran for 28 mins (3.7 miles) ( I was going to do 30 mins but some girls walked in and they clearly were going to grab the ellipticals so I bolted to one muahaha). Then elliptical for 40mins and bounced!

Hollie joined me for the typical post work out pic. I heard someone coming in the locker room so I quickly had to snap it…hence the blurriness of this first pic…

image

Then when we were in the swimming locker room we took a better one hahaha

image

Look at that death stare…what a creep.

Made thee most bomb.com wrap today- I just had to share (I am clearly proud and it tasted delishhhh)

MMM all wrapped up : )

I went over to my brothers girls friends apt because she had a surprise for me… She researched all this stuff and bought me snickers marathon bars, icyhot, bagel thins, peanut butter and gatorade!!!! annnd she made a relaxation mix cd for the night before!! How sweet is she??? Seriously, she is a KEEPER!

I need your help puh-leaseee!

OH hellloooo 5 days away from the big day!!!! I could not be any more nervous, excited, terrified, happy, overwhelmed, freaking out…hahah so many other emotions as well. Today I planned on just doing 30 minutes on the treadmill at marathon pace- def nothing to over do myself with.  (30mins, 3.75 miles)

Well, me being me… I did that…and then elliptical for half hour, then Hollie showed up at the fitness center and I couldn’t pass up running and catching up with her because I hadn’t seen her really since like mmm last Wednesday. Obvs had to bond w my twin. Sooo I did another 2 miles (16mins). Hahah and then I called it a day.

You guys always get the same clothes (because I’m gross and lazy and don’t wash my gym clothes all that often- sue me.) and same mirror and usually the same pose, so today I mixed it up. YEAH how ya like DAT.

Okay! For you tumblrs that have ran marathons- do you have any advice for me? Anything at all that you can offer would be much appreciated!!! (You can send it to my ask box if it’s too long or leave a comment here or whatever!)

ALSO I need help from you tumblrs!!! What are some songs that I NEED to have on my marathon playlist??

You are a beautiful girl. This might sound like a weird thing to say, but I'm proud of you. You accomplished some major feats in your fitness and you are still going strong. Sometimes what we need to hear is that we're doing it right. You are and I'm proud of you. You have a great attitude and a stunningly gorgeous smile. Keep up the work and keep up that smile. Happy Valentine's Day. -D

Whoever you are….THANK YOU. Honestly, you just made my day, I wish I knew who you were so I could force you to be my Valentine… hahah

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Happy Valentine’s Day Bloggies!

My mom sent me back with some valentine’s day heart sugar cookies, so needless to say that is filling the the hole in my heart ; )

image

Remember in elementary school when you had to fill out those valentines then stuff them all in the brown paper bags that we had decorated? Well just think of this picture as my valentine to all of you guys : ) Because I love you allll!

Today when I got to the gym I didn’t even think of stepping on the treadmill to run. Definite rest day- my legs are thanking me. I did an hour on the elliptical then half hour on the arc trainer and bounced. Stretched and stretched and then stretched some more! Now I’m off to the library to hide out in there because hopefully there will be no couples to remind me of my single-ness do some much needed work!

Kisses for all of you! Have an awful i mean awesome Valentine’s Day!!
